Research shows that children experience better outcomes with kin across three major domains: improved placement stability, higher levels of permanency, and decreased behavior problems. ChildFocus reviewed some of the more recent literature on kinship care, summarized here, across these three outcome areas. Additonally in 2024, Think of Us also drafted a short summary of research which can be viewed here

Throughout the years Generations United has collected grandfamilies research and developed an annotated bibliography. The articles are divided into 15 different topics. You can either search by navigating through the topics or use the search function to search by keywords. If you have additional professional peer reviewed articles that you would like to have considered for inclusion, please email Generations United at gu@gu.org and include “Annotated Bibliography” in the subject line.
